Shamsie tells sheriff that jail ordeal is politics

County Judge Terry Shamsie, who phoned in to this week's commissioners court meeting, hinted that the brouhaha over the jail is nothing but politics. "I would like to welcome the sheriff again to politics. She doesn't run a prison like George Bush runs Guantanamo Bay," he said while calling in from his vacation.
Several district judges, including Jose Longoria, Jack Hunter and Rose Vela, disagreed, saying prisoners were being treated "like animals" and that the conditions at the jail are inhumane.
Ortiz resents comment about jail's prisoners
A memo from Hunter saying jail prisoners were being treated like animals drew fire from County Commissioner Oscar Ortiz, who said, "That's uncalled for. I really resent the judge saying that."
Living conditions are not comparable
Taking a shot at Vela, who blasted the conditions in the Nueces County Jail this week, Shamsie said, "She lives on Ocean Drive. Anything less than that probably does look like a Third World country."
Strange coincidence as Shamsie phones in
Shamsie, out of the country on vacation, phoned in right as the minister was walking up to the podium to give the invocation at this week's commissioners court
meeting.
County Commissioner Oscar Ortiz intoned, "You have a direct line to God."
Media at presentation, confuses Banales
Walking into the Nueces County Commissioners courtroom for a presentation on conditions at the Nueces County Jail, District Judge Manuel Banales looked around the room, which was chockfull of reporters and cameras, and asked District Judge Tom Greenwell, "Are we in the right place?"
"Did you say you were going to close the meeting," Greenwell joked, alluding to Banales' role, along with Judge Nanette Hasette, in closing a meeting media member protested should be open.
Pharmacy comment strikes a nerve
After that meeting concluded, Longoria, angered by the "sorry state" of affairs at the jail, opined that the $5 million Shamsie and the Commissioners Court wanted to give to Texas A&M Kingsville Pharmacy School earlier this year should have been used to fix the jail.
"Don't go there," growled Banales, who is married to County Commissioner Peggy Banales.
Brewster's was spot for pre-concert party
The party before Wednesday night's Sheryl Crow concert was at Brewster's, with Regional Transportation Authority board member John Buckley and businessman Dusty Durrill playing host to a big crowd at their table. Across the room, District Judge Jana Whatley, who presides over San Patricio, Aransas and Bee counties, was hanging out with friends.
Strayhorn says race between her, Perry
Now that Carole Keeton Strayhorn is on the ballot, she had one message for Gov. Rick Perry on Friday: Let the race begin!
"It does not matter what games they play, I had 250,000 people sign the petition and Texas knows it's a two person race," she said. "I have the resources and I can get people to the polls. I can and will end Rick Perry's regime."Both Strayhorn and Kinky Friedman are on the ballot as independents.

Garcia sees Democrats as Davids poised to slay GOP Goliaths this fall.

Garcia, 40, is a former Navy aviator with a Harvard law degree challenging GOP state Rep. Gene Seaman of Corpus Christi. At the Dems' do in Fort Worth, he made light of Vice President Dick Cheney's February shooting of a hunting pal with references to Cheney's defense of Bush, his student deferments that let him avoid the draft during the Vietnam conflict and past delays in protecting U.S. troops in Iraq.

"There are a few details the mainstream media missed," Garcia said of the South Texas mishap. "For example, very few people know that before the vice president shot Mr. (Harry) Whittington, he actually tortured him for an hour and a half.

"You might not know that the vice president . . . was actually signed up to take the mandatory hunter safety course, but he took five deferments to avoid going.

"And perhaps most tragically of all, you might not know that before the trip, Mr. Whittington had actually requested body armor and Kevlar but had been turned down by (Defense) Secretary (Donald) Rumsfeld."

But seriously: Garcia sees Democrats as Davids poised to slay GOP Goliaths this fall. Voters are skeptical of promised cuts in school taxes, he said this week, and some are stunned that Republican leaders have yet to require that all legislative votes be recorded.

"People get that," he said. "We're going to hold (House) members accountable.

This became the place for all as Spring Break '84 and John Trice should remember. Do you remember the Skateboard Ramp and Contest. The Bikini Contest and all the hoopla? How about it Rick Trevino, Steve Cooke, Duane Hansen, Matthew Hearndon and all you other forgetful "big timers". John Trice is now the president of Frost Bank on the Island. Waz up Johnny? Speak up "Mr make all that money off of an open access beach" ?

CORPUS CHRISTI REGIONAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION BOARD MEMBER Joe Elizondo shows up 4 hours tardy to Birthday Party for Juan Garcia

Joe Elizondo, surely he is a gentle man and a member of our leadership INFRASTRUCTURE? However, there must be HOUSECLEANING and the "Pulling of Weeds" that poisons us from the Top Down. Grassroots comes from the fertile soil which needs a CONSTANT GARDENER. We Stand United as when you spoke up.

"Everybody else who stood up to speak after you should have plugged or reiterated the stand you made. That is if they supported the same issue. You made a strong statement in stentoric style. " This statement is addressed to an email I recieved regarding the behavior. He / She knows who they are.

Now the negative (in response to the email inquiring about the Joe Elizondo incident). Joe Elizondo was very beligerant. I am sure he has earned his position (or he wouldn't be on the ccredc) but the position is not Mr Elizondo's to wield with such lack of prudence.

Mr Elizondo was standing (stage right)
with a group (entourage) of 6-10 males and females.

The band was running low on fresh songs but everybody was having a good time so "the band played on". Did you hear him (Juan) on the radio (1150 AM) last week (Thursday June 1, 2006)? He (Juan) had lost his voice. Mr. Elizondo began chanting JUAN MORE, JUAN MORE over and over (increasing in a menacing, heckle tone). Everyone ignored him. Mr Elizondo continued with the JUAN MORE, JUAN MORE escalation. Then the Guitar Guy with the Hat "straight off of the sunset strip" was suggesting songs (lead ins). Elizondo yelled, "WHO GIVES A FUCK" and some other MINUTIA (uncalled for). Mr Elizondo was directing his disrespect at the stage. My wife & I at the same time said, "HEY" and we turned to him with a meeting of the eyes. His group separated and Elizondo departed in a new truck. The others with him were friendly & charming before and after.

The deciding factor and final inspiration for publishing the article occurred on Friday June 2, 2006 when Joe Benavides and Judge JAG ahowed up tardy to the 1150 AM radio talk show. The final final statements of Joe Benavides curiously excluded his client Jimmy Rodriguez although included a slate of WATTS puppets. The tactic was clear, they were trying to look good in the eyes of public opinion by telling everyone they were contributing to this cause for the children. Joe Elizondo's name just happened to be one of the contributors. We dont need contributors like that and besides that Kangaroo Court of JAGS is nothing but a Rail Road of selective prosecution and it generates plenty of money. The contributions are write offs and publicity plugs for a GAZILLIONAIRE'S Agenda. So is it commendable for our kids to have such an example in a Community Leader such as Joe Elizondo or Hector Canales (who tried to hide behind the children in the Barbie Girl Divorce)?

That behavior is an embarrassment to the two boards; where do you “think” you sit so high?

And I know that is not why you “think” you sit so high.

Resign step down and go back to your “HOMETOWN”
